Cupramontana - Cantinone B&B

We came so far to see this delightful statuette at Cantinone and of course the two people who have developed this delightful B&B.

Ian and Jane have built Cantinone into a successful B&B in Cupramontana. This is some 20kms from Ancona on Italy's Adriatic coast. It was some 260kms from Castello di Mugnana in Tuscany and Sally, Evan, Jean-Marc and Genevieve did the trip there and back in one day; Thursday the 29th July 2010. Jean-Marc did all the driving!! And what a drive! The civil engineering is outstanding including so many road tunnels. One two lane tunnel for each way. We lost count of the number of them.

Evan and Jane's parents were neighbours back in Wellington in the 1940's and onwards. The families have always been very good, supportive friends starting with Noaah, Svend, Joan and Les. Jane's paternal grandfather Frank asssisted Svend over a number of years with the landscaping of the Linden section. Jane's sister Leigh is also a very close family friend of Evan and Sally back in New Zealand. Imagine Evan's surprise and delight to see an older family photo taken at Frank's 80th birthday in 1965 which incuded Norah, Svend and brother John. All the way to mid Italy and a family photo was brought out.

A view of the side-entry into Cantinone.

Ian, Genevieve (from Huldenberg), Jane and Sally (from Greystone).

A superb lunch was served together with many home-made licqueurs. The photo features L to R, Evan, Jane, Ian and Sally. There was something in the Linden NZ water that caused Evan and Jane at either end of the world to specialise in licqueur manufacture. All excellent quaffe mixtures.

And here, not to be forgotten are Genevieve and Jean-Marc qiuetly getting on with the important matters; quaffing and photographing.

And another shot of the partiers. L to R, Sally, Ian, Genevieve, Jean-Marc and Jane.
A wonderful day full of nostalgia and also looking forward to our nexxt contact which is planned for late September on our way back to Rome on our way back to Greystone NZ. Thanks Ian and Jane for such a memorable occasion. Plenty to chat over with Leigh and Les (Leigh and Jane's Dad, now 96 years old) when Evan returns to Wellington NZ.
